The 19th Annual of the Estonian Physical Society (EFS) starts with an article by Ilmar Ots and Hannes Liivat about builders of the Standard Model, Nobel Prize 2009 winners Yoichiro Nambu, Makoto Kobayashi and Toshihide Maskawa. It is followed by a short biography of Prof. Cheslav Lushchik on the occasion of his eightieth birthday by Henn Käämbre.
The second part of the Annual contains the programme of the 38th Estonian Days of Physics (Tartu, March 18–19, 2008) and three presentations given there. Hilja Iher writes about research at Tahkuse Air Monitoring Station, Peeter Saari about accelerating Airy pulsed light beams and Jaak Kikas about macro-, micro- and nano-tubes.
In the third part of the Annual, the programme of the 39th Estonian Days of Physics, to be held on March 17 and 18, 2009, together with the abstracts of the reports are published. Marko Kaasik and Svetlana Ganina publish full articles on their presentations at the 39th Estonian Days of Physics.
The next part of the Annual presents official documents of the Estonian Physical Society. The EFS Annual Prize and the Medal of the Society 2008 were given to Laser Diagnostic Instruments Ltd, the Honorary Citations winner was Kalev Tarkpea. Dr. Piret Kuusk has been elected as an honorary member of the Estonian Physical Society. The High School Student Award was granted to a student of Tallinn Secondary Science School (Tallinna Reaalkool) Kaarel Mäearu, whose work was completed under the supervision of his teacher Mart Kuurme. The Society section includes also the Annual Report for the year 2008, changes of the Society Statute and the list of Board members of the Society. At the end of the section, the programmes of the EFS Summer and Autumn Schools of Exact Sciences and of the Summer School of Teachers of Physics for the year 2008 can be found.
The Annual ends with the physics chronicle, which lists the most significant events in the development of physics in Estonia in 2008.
